Every student must submit their FAFSA in order to apply for scholarships. The Maryland financial aid priority deadline is extended to May 15, 2024.

How to Apply

New and Prospective Students

1. Before you can apply for scholarships, you must first apply for admission.
2. If you haven't already, submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to College of Southern Maryland (CSM FAFSA School code is 002064).
3. You will receive your admissions letter via email which includes your new my.CSMD username and password. P lease sign in to Scholarship Finder using your my.CSMD information.

4. Complete the General and Conditional Applications.
5. Once the applications are complete, check the opportunities page so you can complete any additional supplemental scholarship questions for additional specific opportunities.

Current Students

Important Application Information

Students applying for CSM scholarships must complete the following steps:

• Students must have a valid email address on file with CSM, as scholarship notification decisions will be sent via the email address on file with CSM. If you need to provide or update your email address, please complete the update Contact Information Form.

• Scholarships may require verification of previous grades.
  
  • If you have never enrolled as a degree seeking student at CSM (current high school or incoming transfer students): You may need to submit an academic transcript from your current institution. You can submit an unofficial transcript to complete the online application process. The transcript can be uploaded directly into the online scholarship application.
  • Current or previous CSM students: Upon submission of your FAFSA, your CSM academic record will be automatically uploaded into the online scholarship application. You do not need to provide further proof of CSM academic grades. If you have taken classes at another institution after your most recent semester at CSM, you will need to upload an unofficial transcript from your other institution.

  Frequently Asked Questions

  Is there a deadline to apply for scholarships with CSM?

  The priority deadline for most scholarships is May 31, but some are due as early as April 15, so apply as soon as possible! This means decisions will begin after that date and continue until funds are no longer available. The committee anticipates decisions will be made prior to the Fall payment due date.

  What do I need to log into the scholarship application?

  You will need a CSM Student ID Number for your log-in and you will create your own password. To receive a CSM student ID number, you must complete our Admissions Application . If you are unsure of your CSM Student ID Number, you can visit any CSM campus library to obtain a valid CSM OneCard (please bring a valid photo ID). You will receive an acceptance email immediately upon completion of your Admissions Application. If you need this to be resent, please send an email to askme@csmd.edu.

  I forgot my password, how can I reset it?

  Log in with your CSM Student ID Number and click on Forgot My Password, an email will be generated and sent to you with your password. This is the only way to get your password - it is system generated.

  Do I need to send Transcripts for each scholarship I apply for?

  • No, you do not need to submit a transcript for each scholarship you are applying for.
  • If you are a current CSM student, you do not need to submit a transcript, as your CSM transcript information is automatically imported into your CSM Online Scholarship Finder application, as long as you have completed a FAFSA application.
  • If you are a high school senior or transfer student, you are required to submit one transcript, which can be done during the application process. There is a question (near the end of the application) which instructs you to enter the name and email address of your school counselor, so that they can submit a transcript on your behalf.

  If I am a current CSM student, do I need to submit an Official Transcript?

  No. By completing the Scholarship Application you are authorizing CSM to review your academic information.

  What additional documentation will I need to submit with the scholarship application?

  Depending on the individual scholarship requirements, you may need an essay or other documents attached to your scholarship application. You can upload these documents while you are completing your scholarship application.

  I completed my scholarship application before the deadline. How will I be notified of my award status?

  You will be notified by email if you have been chosen to receive a scholarship.

  How do I check on the status of my scholarship application?

  Once you apply at CSM Online Scholarship Finder, you will need to wait to receive your letter from the Scholarship Committee to inform you of their decision. The Financial Assistance Department at CSM will not have specific information available prior to the Scholarship Committee's decisions. You can access your specific scholarship application information if you log back into CSM 's Online Scholarship Finder to view the scholarships you applied for.
